LG Energy Solution's Canadian plant surpasses 10 million battery cells

LG Energy Solution's Canadian production subsidiary, NextStar Energy, has announced that its manufacturing facility in Windsor, Ontario, has surpassed a cumulative production milestone of 10 million battery cells.

Since commencing commercial production in November last year, the plant has seen rapid scaling, increasing its cumulative output tenfold in the eight months following its initial milestone of 1 million cells in February. The facility currently produces lithium iron phosphate (LFP) based battery cells for energy storage systems (ESS).

NextStar Energy was originally established as a joint venture between LG Energy Solution and Stellantis. Following LG Energy Solution's decision to acquire 49% of Stellantis's stake earlier this year, the entity transitioned into a wholly-owned subsidiary. The company has invested over 5 billion Canadian dollars in construction and operations since its launch in 2022 and currently employs approximately 1,300 people, with plans to expand the workforce to 2,500.
