LG launches air-cooled chiller for AI data centers in Philippines

LG Electronics has launched a high-efficiency Air-Cooled Centrifugal Chiller (ACC) specifically designed to meet the cooling demands of AI data centers in the Philippines. The new system utilizes an oil-free magnetic bearing centrifugal compressor, which uses magnetic force to suspend the rotating shaft. This design eliminates the need for lubricating oil, thereby reducing mechanical friction and improving compression performance.

The chiller also features refrigerant free-cooling technology that uses outdoor air to lower the compressor cooling load. It is designed to improve energy performance and maintain cooling continuity for facilities with varying requirements, offering cooling capacities between 480 and 600 RT per unit.

The launch comes as the Philippine data center market experiences robust growth due to rising demand for cloud computing, digital services, and data sovereignty. The U.S. International Trade Administration has noted this expansion, while the Philippine Department of Energy has emphasized the necessity for secure and sustainable energy resources to support evolving AI infrastructure.
