LG Electronics AI data center cooling expansion
Overview
LG Electronics is expanding its thermal management solutions for AI data centers through strategic partnerships and new product launches.
The company joined the NVIDIA Partner Network as a Preferred Partner in the ‘Power and Cooling’ sector. This allows LG to provide cooling solutions, such as Coolant Distribution Units (CDU) and a ‘Chip to Chiller’ lineup, to customers building AI factories and data centers. LG has secured NVIDIA specification approvals for various CDU capacities, including 600kW and 1MW models. Notably, its 2.5MW class CDU has been recognized as a ‘DSX Ready CDU,’ a certification for products meeting specific requirements for AI factory construction. LG intends to focus expansion on the North American market, targeting hyperscalers and colocation markets.
In the Philippines, LG has launched a high-efficiency Air-Cooled Centrifugal Chiller (ACC) designed to meet local AI data center demands. This system utilizes oil-free magnetic bearing centrifugal compressor technology and refrigerant free-cooling to improve energy performance and maintain cooling continuity amidst growing regional demand for cloud computing and digital services.
To support this growth, LG is investing $64 million to build a 350,000-square-foot manufacturing facility in Isle of Wight County, Virginia. Scheduled to begin production in the first half of 2027, the plant will serve as a strategic base for supplying air-cooled chillers and HVAC solutions to North America. This is part of a broader $110 million investment plan that includes upgrading production lines in Pyeongtaek and Changwon, South Korea, through conveyor-based mass production systems.
