Liberalerna rises above election threshold in new Swedish polls

The Liberal Party (Liberalerna) has seen a significant surge in recent polling by Novus, reaching 5.8 percent. This marks the first time during this mandate period that the party has statistically cleared the four percent threshold. The increase follows a period of low support, with the party more than tripling its measured support in just a few weeks.

According to the Novus analysis, the rise is primarily driven by voters moving from the Sweden Democrats (Sverigedemokraterna) and the Moderate Party (Moderaterna). Other notable shifts in the poll include the Green Party (Miljöpartiet) increasing to 8.8 percent, while the Left Party (Vänsterpartiet) dropped to 7.5 percent. The Social Democrats (Socialdemokraterna) remain the largest party at 26.6 percent.

Separately, Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson is facing scrutiny regarding the use of taxpayer funds. Reports indicate that staff from the Government Offices worked for a total of 68 hours preparing for the Prime Minister's birthday celebrations. While the Moderate Party has campaigned on preventing waste, the Prime Minister's press secretary defended the use of staff as a necessary security measure, stating that it is too dangerous for Kristersson to reside anywhere other than Sagerska Huset or Harpsund.
