Liberia advances diplomatic role at UN and pursues South-South cooperation

Liberia has concluded its tenure as the Coordinator of the Ten Elected Members (E10) of the United Nations Security Council for August 2026. During its leadership, the nation engaged in high-level diplomacy, including hosting UN Secretary-General António Guterres to discuss humanitarian interventions in Gaza and the West Bank. Liberia also chaired meetings regarding the Libyan political process and security in West Africa and the Sahel, while negotiating with the International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals regarding judicial archives.

In a separate diplomatic effort, a delegation of 12 Liberian legislators participated in a South-South Peer Learning Mission to India from August 10 to 15, 2026. Supported by UN Women and the IBSA Fund, the mission focused on advancing women’s leadership and gender-responsive governance. The delegation met with Indian ministers to study models for digital inclusion, financial empowerment, and gender-responsive budgeting to apply similar frameworks within Liberia.
