Liberia advances health research and vision screening initiatives
Liberia is advancing several public health and scientific initiatives. Dr. Sia Wata Camanor, Acting Director General of the National Public Health Institute of Liberia (NPHIL), opened the 5th Emmet A. Dennis National Scientific Conference. Held under the theme ‘Strengthening Health Security in Liberia through Research and Innovation’, the three-day event gathered over 200 professionals to discuss scientific approaches to national challenges and promote evidence-based decision-making.
Simultaneously, the Ministry of Health has extended its World Sight Day eye screening activities due to high demand from educational institutions. The National Eye Health Unit has screened more than 1,500 individuals, primarily students, to identify refractive errors and other conditions like cataracts. The initiative aims to prevent undiagnosed vision problems from hindering academic performance and classroom participation.
