Liberia public health and social development initiatives

Overview

Liberia is implementing various initiatives focused on public health, education, and legal accountability. In the health sector, the National Public Health Institute of Liberia (NPHIL) convened the 5th Emmet A. Dennis National Scientific Conference to promote research-driven health security. Concurrently, the Ministry of Health extended eye screening activities, having already screened over 1,500 individuals to address vision issues among students.

Educational developments include the Liberia Petroleum Regulatory Authority (LPRA) providing funds to upgrade the University of Liberia’s Earth Sciences Laboratory, and the establishment of a new reading room at Barnesville Public High School to support digital and print literacy.

On the legal front, the Liberian National Bar Association is advocating for the creation of a War and Economic Crimes Court to address child exploitation during the country’s civil conflict. Meanwhile, the Liberian National Students Union (LINSU) is seeking to institutionalize its National Academic County Meet to promote national unity.
