Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission mandates asset redeclaration

The Liberia Anti-Corruption Commission (LACC) has announced that public officials will be required to redeclare their assets next year. This move follows a period of high compliance under the administration of President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, which has seen more than 3,000 declarations filed to date.

During the commission’s 18th anniversary celebration in Monrovia, LACC Executive Chairperson Cllr. Alexandra Zoe highlighted the agency’s institutional growth and the impact of the 2022 amended and restated Act. This legislation granted the LACC direct prosecutorial powers, a significant shift from previous requirements to forward investigative reports to the Ministry of Justice.

Zoe emphasized that while the LACC has grown, the fight against corruption requires national cooperation and the establishment of specialized courts to adjudicate cases efficiently. Minister of State for Presidential Affairs Samuel A. Stevquoah added that the Boakai administration views accountability and the responsible management of public resources as central to the country’s development and democratic stability.
