Liberia Finance Minister warns of 2027 budget constraints
Liberia has commenced its 2027 national budget hearings, with Finance Minister Augustine Kpehe Ngafuan warning government agencies of potential funding constraints. The minister noted that a one-time revenue windfall of approximately US$200 million, which bolstered current collections, will not recur in the upcoming fiscal year.
During the Executive Budget Hearings, which began on October 1, Ngafuan advised ministries to prepare for difficult choices as the government balances increasing demands against limited resources. While the Ministry of Mines and Energy exceeded its 2026 revenue targets, officials cautioned that such performance levels may not be repeatable in 2027. To address the projected revenue gap, the government has established a new Mining Revenue Task Force.
