Liberia football team suffers second consecutive AFCON qualifier defeat
Liberia’s national football team, the Lone Star, has suffered its second consecutive defeat in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers. Following a 3-1 loss to Rwanda in the opening round, the team lost 1-0 to Mali at the Samuel Kanyon Doe Sports Complex.
Sports Minister Cornelia Kruah addressed the results on social media, noting that while the outcome was not desired, the performance against Mali was “better than the last.” Despite the competitive nature of the matches, Liberia remains with zero points after two of its six scheduled group matches. The team now faces a critical path to qualification, with four matches remaining in the campaign.
