Liberia governance: Dr. Nyan criticizes CDC and Unity Party

Dr. Dougbeh Chris Nyan, the former Director General of the National Public Health Institute of Liberia (NPHIL), has criticized the governance of Liberia’s successive administrations. In an interview with Smart News Liberia, Nyan argued that both the Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC) and the Unity Party (UP) have failed to address the nation's deep-seated development and governance challenges.

Nyan stated that the political discourse in Liberia has devolved into a competition over corruption, noting that “the order of being corrupt and the other is in order of being corrupt.” He suggested that instead of focusing on institutional improvement and infrastructure, political actors are primarily engaged in accusations and counteraccusations.

Specifically, Nyan critiqued the current Unity Party administration under President Joseph Boakai, stating it has not demonstrated the fundamental improvements promised when returning to leadership after 12 years. He noted that the party's efforts have not effectively distinguished themselves from the previous administration of former President George Weah.
