Liberia health officials assess facility gaps ahead of 2027 budget

Liberian lawmakers have launched a nationwide assessment of government health facilities to inform the 2027 national budget. Led by Senator Dabah M. Varpilah, the Joint Legislative Committee on Health began its evaluation in Grand Bassa County to investigate staffing levels, funding, medical supplies, and the status of volunteer health workers.

During discussions in Buchanan, officials highlighted challenges including inadequate logistical support and insufficient funding for healthcare delivery. The committee aims to move beyond written reports to understand the real-world conditions and priorities of County Health Teams.

In a separate development addressing equipment shortages, Church Aid Inc. donated hearing screening equipment to the Liberia Government Hospital in Buchanan. This donation expands access to ear and hearing health services for the residents of Grand Bassa County and marks the sixth hospital to receive such equipment from the organization as part of an effort to strengthen specialized diagnostic capacity across the country.
