Liberia launches multi-sectoral development and health initiatives

Liberia is implementing several strategic initiatives aimed at national development, public health, and institutional stability. The Ministry of Health, in partnership with the United States government and Catholic Relief Services, has launched the Faith and Community Initiative. This program seeks to utilize a network of over 750 churches and mosques to deliver essential services, including HIV, malaria, tuberculosis, and maternal and child health care, working alongside existing government clinics.

In the realm of governance and economic stability, the Liberia Revenue Authority (LRA) is strengthening its partnership with civil society organizations to improve taxpayer education and domestic revenue mobilization. Additionally, the Peacebuilding Office has begun developing a five-year strategic roadmap to enhance conflict prevention and mediation. To ensure long-term continuity, the head of the Environmental Protection Agency has proposed a 25-year national development framework to protect progress from being disrupted by electoral cycles.

Furthermore, the government is addressing infrastructure and sanitation through WASH FIT training across nine counties to improve water, sanitation, and hygiene standards in healthcare facilities. Meanwhile, civil society groups are petitioning President Joseph Nyuma Boakai for a dedicated budgetary appropriation to support the sustainability of non-governmental organizations.
