Liberia opens prequalification for 2026 petroleum licensing round

The Liberia Petroleum Regulatory Authority (LPRA) has opened the prequalification process for the country’s 2026 Direct Negotiation Petroleum Licensing Round. Announced by Director General Marilyn Logan during Liberia Investor Day in Houston, Texas, the initiative aims to attract capable offshore petroleum investors.

Applicants must undergo rigorous assessments of their technical capacity, financial capability, and demonstrated experience in offshore petroleum exploration. Companies that successfully complete the prequalification process will hold their status for five years. The formal licensing round is scheduled to launch in the fourth quarter of 2026, utilizing direct negotiations tied to the specific exploration commitments proposed by each company.
