Liberia seeks diaspora investment and first sovereign credit rating
At the second Liberia Diaspora Annual Conference held in the United States, President Joseph Boakai called on Liberians living abroad to convert their patriotism into tangible development projects. Boakai emphasized that the diaspora should act as full partners in the nation's future, moving from dialogue to implementation through measurable results.
To bolster investor confidence, the Liberian government has begun the process of obtaining its first sovereign credit rating with support from the United Nations Development Programme. The administration also reported record revenue and highlighted progress in establishing a legal framework for diaspora engagement, including a strengthened Office of Diaspora Affairs.
During the conference, Liberia Organic Cocoa presented its vision for developing a sustainable, high-quality cocoa sector in Liberia, specifically targeting international markets and job creation in Bong County.
