Liberia strengthens global presence through UN engagements
Liberian President Joseph Nyuma Boakai stated that the country’s participation in the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly has strengthened Liberia’s international voice and provided greater opportunities to articulate its positions. Upon his return to Liberia, Boakai emphasized that the administration is working to move beyond encouraging the diaspora to return, aiming instead to facilitate actual investment and business establishment by Liberians living abroad.
In a separate diplomatic effort at the United Nations, Ambassador Lewis G. Brown, representing the A3 bloc (Liberia, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and Somalia), called on the UN Security Council to address institutional impasses. Brown urged for improvements in the transparency and effectiveness of the sanctions delisting process, highlighting that procedural delays and coordination gaps undermine the credibility of the global sanctions framework. He advocated for streamlined decision-making and stronger due process guarantees for those petitioning for removal from UN sanctions lists.
