Liberian CDC disputes NPP claims over opposition roundtable invitation

The Congress for Democratic Change (CDC) has disputed claims made by National Patriotic Party (NPP) Chairman George Mulbah regarding an upcoming opposition roundtable discussion. While Mulbah announced that the NPP would not participate in the meeting organized by former President George Weah, CDC Secretary-General Jefferson T. Koijee stated that the NPP as an institution was never formally invited.

Koijee clarified that although several NPP members were extended invitations, they were invited in their individual capacities rather than as official representatives of the party. He characterized Mulbah’s refusal to attend as “grandstanding and political posturing,” asserting that no invitation was ever sent to the NPP leadership.

The disagreement highlights ongoing tensions between the two parties, which previously served as coalition partners during the 2017 elections. This political friction occurs amid heightened scrutiny in Liberia following the investigation and detention of former Vice President Jewel Howard-Taylor in connection to a major drug case.
