Liberian Information Minister Piah urges lawmakers to address tax concerns
Information Minister Jerolinmek M. Piah has challenged the Liberian Legislature to move beyond public criticism and take concrete legislative action regarding the country’s taxation policies. Speaking during a press briefing in Monrovia on October 29, 2026, Piah responded to criticisms from Gbarpolu County Senator Amara Konneh, who accused the administration of imposing an excessive financial burden on citizens through harsh tax policies.
Piah argued that the Legislature shares responsibility for the nation’s economic direction and holds a constitutional mandate in economic decision-making. He stated that rather than issuing public declarations, lawmakers should exercise their oversight powers by summoning administration officials for explanations and drafting remedial legislation to address the economic hardships facing the population.
