Liblice transmitters to be demolished in Czech Republic

České radiokomunikace has announced the final decision to demolish the Liblice transmitters, which are the tallest structures in the Czech Republic. The demolition process is scheduled to take place between October 12 and October 16, with the cutting and removal of the steel structures expected to continue until the end of November.

Each of the two towers stands 355 meters tall and has been in operation since 1976. The decision follows concerns regarding the high costs of maintenance and necessary repairs. To keep the towers operational, an extensive reconstruction would have been required, including the replacement of anchor cables and elevator repairs, costing approximately 170 million CZK. Additionally, the company noted that annual operating costs would remain high. Marek Procházka, director for legal and regulatory affairs at České radiokomunikace, stated that the company decided to move forward with the demolition due to a lack of customer interest and the high costs of operation.
