Libre Space Foundation develops micro-satellite for Kazakhstan school
The Libre Space Foundation (LSF), a non-profit organization based in Athens, Greece, has developed a miniature “pocket-class” satellite for a school in Astana, Kazakhstan. The cube-shaped satellite, measuring 5 x 5 x 5 centimeters, is being deployed into space via a SpaceX rocket.
LSF, founded in 2015 with the goal of creating open-source space technology and designs, provided an engineering model to train students before constructing the final satellite. The project was initiated after the Kazakhstan Space Agency sought affordable satellite solutions to support the country’s goal of developing an autonomous space program on a limited budget.
To date, the organization has successfully launched over ten micro, nano, and pico-satellites into orbit.
