Libre Space Foundation satellite launch for Kazakhstan
Overview
The Libre Space Foundation (LSF), an Athens-based non-profit, developed a miniature “pocket-class” picosatellite for a school in Astana, Kazakhstan. The 5 x 5 x 5 centimeter cube-shaped satellite was designed to provide affordable, open-source space technology to support the Kazakhstan Space Agency’s goal of developing an autonomous space program on a limited budget.
Following its development and training phase, the satellite was launched via a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket from Vandenberg Space Force Base in California. The mission included the educational payload alongside 21 data transport satellites for the United States Space Development Agency’s Proliferated Warfighter Space Architecture.
