Libya convoy delivering Gaza aid attacked, participants including Spaniards missing

A humanitarian convoy organized by Global Sumud, comprising more than 200 volunteers and experts from countries such as Spain, Uruguay, Canada, Tunisia, Italy, Portugal, Argentina, the United States, Poland and others, set out from Mauritania to deliver aid to the Gaza Strip by land.

While passing through Libya near the city of Sirte, the convoy was attacked. Unidentified vehicles reportedly rammed tents and forced people into cars and buses, abducting several activists. The group lost contact with the convoy and has not heard from it for hours.

Global Sumud said the convoy had previously tried to negotiate safe passage with eastern Libyan authorities but received no concrete response. The organization called on the foreign ministries of the nationals involved to intervene and demand the immediate release of the detained participants.
