Libya faces Russian naval arrivals and southern border closures

Military activity and internal instability are escalating in Libya. Satellite imagery and intelligence reports indicate the arrival of a Russian military flotilla at the port of Tobruk in eastern Libya, a move drawing significant attention due to the location's strategic importance.

Simultaneously, in southern Libya, the ‘Fezzan Revolutionaries Force’ has announced the closure of a vast border zone for commercial transport. This area extends from the Algerian border to the triangle connecting Libya, Chad, and Sudan. The group declared the zone a ‘closed military area until further notice,’ citing tensions with forces affiliated with Khalifa Haftar.

The group claims its actions are a response to a blockade around the city of Al-Qatrun, which they allege prevents the delivery of fuel and gas. The group has also threatened to intercept trucks suspected of participating in fuel smuggling to neighboring countries.
