Libyan military and geopolitical instability

Overview

Libya is experiencing increased military tension involving foreign actors and internal instability. The Tripoli-based Government of National Unity has denied allegations that it permitted Ukraine to use the Misrata military base to launch naval drone attacks against Russian vessels in the Mediterranean. These denials follow reports suggesting that Ukrainian intelligence used the base to target Russia’s ‘shadow fleet’ of tankers.
