Libya's Tripoli: Human Rights Group Calls for End to Military Detentions and Enforced Disappearances

The Committee for Justice (CFJ) has documented a rise in arbitrary arrests and enforced disappearances of civilians in Tripoli, Libya. The group says members of the 111th Brigade of the Libyan Army have stopped and detained people at checkpoints on Airport Road, Al‑Hadba Al‑Khadra Project, Abu Salim and Al‑Khaltat, and have raided private homes without judicial warrants. Detainees were reportedly taken to the brigade’s headquarters on Airport Road, held without being presented to the Public Prosecution, and in some cases their whereabouts remain unknown.

CFJ urges Libyan authorities to release all arbitrarily detained individuals, disclose the fate of those subjected to enforced disappearance, end the detention of civilians by military formations, and ensure that all detainees are brought before competent judicial authorities in line with national law and international human‑rights standards.
