Teramo's Melchiorre Delfico Lyceum approved for 26 million euro seismic upgrade

The definitive project for the seismic upgrading and energy efficiency of the Melchiorre Delfico Classical Lyceum in Teramo has been approved. The decision was reached during a Special Services Conference convened by the 2016 Earthquake Commissioner Structure, led by Guido Castelli.

The project involves a total investment of approximately 26.3 million euros, with 17.8 million euros specifically allocated for construction works. The intervention aims to address structural vulnerabilities, improve energy performance, remove architectural barriers, and restore historical elements of the landmark building, which was designed by architect Vincenzo Pilotti in the 1930s.

The works are expected to take 670 consecutive days. The building, which also houses the National Boarding School, has been under judicial seizure since October 2024, with students currently relocated to alternative facilities. Regional President Marco Marsilio and local officials noted that the use of accelerated administrative procedures was essential to overcome bureaucratic delays and address the rising costs of construction materials and energy.
