Teramo school infrastructure and seismic safety upgrades

Authorities in Teramo, Italy, are implementing significant investments to improve school infrastructure and seismic safety.

In August 2026, a 26.3 million euro project was approved for the seismic upgrading and energy efficiency of the Melchiorre Delfico Classical Lyceum. This intervention, which includes 17.8 million euros for construction, aims to address structural vulnerabilities and restore historical elements of the landmark building. The project follows a period of judicial seizure for the facility and is expected to last 670 days.

By September 2026, the Province of Teramo expanded its scope, launching a broader program of school infrastructure interventions exceeding 150 million euros. This program encompasses seismic safety upgrades, fire prevention, and reconstruction efforts supported by the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR). Notable progress includes the inauguration of the ITS Academy Agroalimentare headquarters in Piano d'Accio, which features new laboratories funded by approximately 3.17 million euros from the PNRR.
