Lidl boosts Dutch community with record food bank donation and electric truck deliveries
Lidl announced that its Dutch stores have donated a record 760,000 kg of fresh vegetables and fruit to Voedselbanken Nederland, together with €665,500 raised from customer charity rounds. The donation was presented by speed‑skater Femke Kok in Huizen and highlights the chain’s 13‑year partnership with the food‑bank network.
Separately, Lidl revealed that from 2025 it will supply all of its 440 Dutch supermarkets exclusively with electric delivery trucks, a year earlier than its original 2030 target. The move was unveiled alongside minister Vincent Karremans at a new fast‑charging hub in Almere. Lidl says the switch will reduce dependence on volatile diesel prices, lower the impact of the upcoming truck‑kilometre tax, and help keep grocery prices stable, while also cutting emissions. Other Dutch retailers such as Albert Heijn and Jumbo have announced similar electrification plans for the coming years.
