Lidl Hungary introduces next-generation self-service checkouts

Lidl Hungary is rolling out next-generation self-service checkouts across its store network to improve shopping efficiency. The new, more compact machines allow more units to be installed in the same footprint, enabling more customers to pay simultaneously without reducing the standard packing surface area.

According to Tibor Kovács, Marketing and Customer Experience Director at Lidl Hungary, the new systems feature updated software and larger interfaces to enhance the user experience. Currently, these new machines are available in 16 stores, with plans for further expansion.

In addition to the new hardware, the company is expanding its self-service zones in approximately 110 stores this year using both new and previous generation equipment. These upgrades will prioritize locations with high customer traffic or limited floor space. Traditional manned checkouts will remain available, and the company stated that automation is intended to support smoother service while maintaining current staffing levels.
