Lidl implements store renovations and new mobile payment system in Czech Republic

Lidl is implementing significant changes across its Czech Republic operations, including a wave of store modernizations and the introduction of a new payment method.

As part of a concept transformation, several Lidl locations are undergoing renovations to create more spacious shopping environments. The updates include wider aisles, improved lighting, and an increased number of both traditional and self-service checkouts to reduce queues. While some stores, such as those in Plzeň and České Budějovice, have already completed their upgrades, others including locations in Bohumín, Holice, Rumburk, Slaný, Říčany, Tábor, Znojmo, and several others will face temporary closures. The company stated that specific reopening dates are not published in advance as they depend on construction progress.

Additionally, Lidl is rolling out the Cvak payment system in all its stores. Developed through a partnership involving Air Bank, Cvak allows customers to pay directly from their mobile banking applications using account-to-account (A2A) transfers. This service is intended to provide a reliable alternative to traditional card payments, particularly in the event of card system outages, and aims to reduce the digital footprint of transactions.
