Lien Khuong Airport resumes operations after upgrades

Lien Khuong International Airport is set to resume operations on August 19 following a five-month closure for runway and taxiway upgrades. The reopening is expected to facilitate approximately 36 to 40 flights on the first day, serving nearly 6,800 passengers. Domestic flight frequencies between Da Lat and major hubs like Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City are expected to increase to 7 or 8 flights per direction daily. International routes, including Da Lat to Kuala Lumpur, are scheduled to resume, with discussions underway to restore flights to Thailand and South Korea.

To support growing demand, the Lam Dong Provincial People's Committee has requested the Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV) to invest in a new T2 passenger terminal and a cargo terminal by 2027. Current passenger volumes have already exceeded the existing terminal's design capacity of 2.5 million people per year. The proposed expansion aims to align with provincial planning to upgrade the airport to a 4E level, targeting a capacity of 5 million passengers and 20,000 tons of cargo annually to bolster regional tourism, logistics, and high-tech agriculture.
