Lienz District Hospital to undergo 300 million euro renovation
The Lienz District Hospital (BKH Lienz) in East Tyrol will undergo a major modernization project involving an investment of 300 million euros. The renovation plan, presented on Thursday, aims to transform the facility into the most modern district hospital in Austria.
The project is scheduled for completion by 2042. The initial phase will begin within two years, focusing on the construction of a new wing that will include operating rooms, inpatient wards, a reception area, and a helicopter landing pad. Architect Konrad Messner noted that the goal is to redesign the entire building and its operational processes rather than just updating individual sections.
Financing for the project will be secured through a combination of the Tyrolean Health Fund (45 percent), the Municipal Equalization Fund (GAF), and a building rights model. Tyrolean Governor Anton Mattle expressed interest in involving the state of Carinthia in the funding, as approximately 30 percent of the hospital's patients originate from Upper Carinthia.
