Italy maritime safety: Coast Guard inspections and sea rescues

Italy is seeing a surge in maritime safety operations and environmental initiatives. The Coast Guard is conducting extensive inspections under ‘Mare e Laghi sicuri 2026’, resulting in significant fines for beach establishments in Crotone for failing to provide required safety services.

Several rescue operations have been reported across the coast, including the rescue of five people after a pleasure craft sank near Castellammare del Golfo, and the successful saving of an 11-year-old boy in Fiumicino and two girls near the Scala dei Turchi.

In environmental news, the ‘Octo-Blu’ project in Cesenatico is releasing octopuses into the sea to combat the invasive blue crab, which has severely impacted local fisheries. Meanwhile, authorities in Crotone are also investigating various cases of illegal construction and environmental violations.
