LIFELINE HLM heart-lung machine used in surgeries at Gaziantep University

The LIFELINE HLM, a domestically developed heart-lung machine, has been successfully utilized in open-heart surgeries at Gaziantep University Şahinbey Research and Application Hospital. Developed through a collaboration between the Ministry of Health, the Turkish Health Institutes Presidency (TÜSEB), and ASELSAN, the device serves to temporarily perform the functions of the heart and lungs during surgical procedures.

Gaziantep University serves as the second clinical application center for the device, following the initial implementation at Ankara Bilkent City Hospital. During the clinical study at the university, four cases were successfully completed, including a triple bypass surgery and a minimally invasive heart valve replacement.

The development of the LIFELINE HLM was a three-year project aimed at reducing foreign dependency on health technologies. Initial research and testing began at TÜSEB’s animal laboratory in Istanbul before progressing to human clinical applications.
