Dimayor maintains Liga BetPlay format while modifying Copa BetPlay

Following a significant earthquake in Colombia, Dimayor has announced structural changes to the professional football calendar to manage scheduling disruptions. In an extraordinary assembly, clubs voted 17 to 3 to maintain the traditional cuadrangulares (semifinal group stages) format for the Liga BetPlay II-2026, rejecting a proposal to switch to a direct playoff system.

However, the Copa BetPlay will undergo significant changes to alleviate the schedule. The round of 16 and quarter-finals will now be played as single-match knockout rounds. The semifinals and the grand final will retain the traditional home-and-away format. For single-match rounds, home-field advantage will be determined by specific criteria: if a first-division team faces a second-division team, the second-division side hosts; if both are from the first division, the team with the better reclassification standing from the first semester hosts.

Other regional football updates include the start of the Clausura 2026 in the Liga Trenquelauquense and the Liga Tandilense in Argentina, as well as the commencement of the Liga Futve Clausura in Venezuela.
