Lightning strike injures visitors at Sweden's Tosselilla amusement park
A strong thunderstorm on Sunday, 28 June 2026, produced a lightning strike that hit a large tree at Tosselilla Sommarland in the Skåne region of southern Sweden. The impact shattered the tree, sending branches and debris onto a group of visitors. Ten people were injured, including a 45‑year‑old woman who was taken to hospital with serious injuries; two others were also transported by ambulance, while two adults and five children received on‑site medical care for minor wounds.
The park had already implemented safety protocols before the storm, clearing visitors from the water‑park area and other attractions. Swedish meteorological service SMHI had issued yellow warnings for thunderstorms and heavy rain across much of southern Sweden earlier that day. Emergency services responded promptly, and the park was temporarily closed for safety checks before reopening later.
"Today we had a strong storm at Tosselilla, which caused lightning to strike directly in the area," the park said on Facebook, adding that the incident was being investigated.
