Southern Europe hit by severe storms, flooding, and tornadoes

Severe weather across Southern Europe has caused widespread destruction, injuries, and fatalities. In Slovenia, a tornado in the Komen municipality caused significant damage, and a lightning strike in Celje killed a 46-year-old man.

In Italy, heavy rainfall in Liguria led to flash flooding, with Chiavari recording 126 mm of rain in two hours. The storms also caused injuries in Spilimbergo when a tree fell on a vehicle. In Tuscany, thousands were left without power.

Croatia and the Kvarner region faced intense storms, particularly on Rab island, where flooding affected a kindergarten and a police station. The Rijeka oil refinery experienced a temporary power outage due to lightning, causing visible flames from its safety flare.

Austria also reported heavy damage, with the Bruck an der Leitha district recording over 400 emergency calls. In Ukraine, a Russian drone attack in the Kharkiv region killed at least two women.
