BUAP Rector Lilia Cedillo confirms term through 2029
Lilia Cedillo Ramírez, rector of the Benemérita Universidad Autónoma de Puebla (BUAP), presented her first labor report for the 2025-2029 term. During the session, she addressed rumors regarding an early departure from her post, firmly stating that her management will continue until her term officially ends on October 4, 2029. The announcement received vocal support from the university community and was backed by Governor Alejandro Armenta Mier, who defended the institution's autonomy.
In her report, Cedillo highlighted institutional progress in infrastructure, including the growth of Ciudad Universitaria 2 (CU2), as well as advancements in academic digitalization, inclusion, and student welfare. Notable initiatives mentioned include the use of trained dogs from the Emotional Support and Occupational Therapy Center (CAETO) to assist students with stress management.
Additionally, BUAP is hosting the 50th Mexican Soil Science Congress from October 5 to 9. Organized alongside the Mexican Soil Science Society, the event brings together researchers and students to discuss soil conservation, biology, and environmental challenges. During the congress, Cedillo presented academic distinctions to Dr. Laura Bertha Reyes Sánchez and Dr. Jorge D. Etchevers Barra for their contributions to the field.
