Academic and administrative developments at BUAP

Overview

The Benemérita Universidad Autónoma de Puebla (BUAP) has seen recent developments regarding academic recognition and institutional leadership.

In September 2026, five academics from the university were awarded the title of National Emeritus Researcher by the Secretaría de Ciencia, Humanidades, Tecnología e Innovación (SECIHTI) and the Sistema Nacional de Investigadoras e Investigadores (SNII). These researchers, specializing in Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry, brought the university’s total to 27 National Emeritus Researchers.

By October 2026, Rector Lilia Cedillo Ramírez addressed her administration’s future, confirming she will serve her full term through October 4, 2029. During her first labor report, Cedillo highlighted infrastructure growth at Ciudad Universitaria 2 (CU2), academic digitalization, and student welfare initiatives. The university also hosted the 50th Mexican Soil Science Congress, during which additional academic distinctions were presented to researchers in the field.
