Lima authorities tighten informal transport enforcement and reroute buses amid protests
The San Isidro municipality in Lima has intensified inspections of informal public‑transport vehicles in partnership with the Urban Transport Authority for Lima and Callao (ATU). Accredited municipal inspectors are seizing unlicensed units, detaining them in authorized depots and enforcing ATU safety measures to curb illegal operations and improve road safety.
Separately, ATU announced temporary route changes for the Metropolitano bus system because of scheduled demonstrations in central Lima. Regular B and express services are being redirected through Lampa and Emancipación avenues, with several stations along the affected corridors temporarily closed. The agency urged passengers to consult official communications for updates and promised to restore normal service once the protests subside.
