Lima improves urban mobility with new bus lanes and metro construction progress
The Urban Transport Authority for Lima and Callao (ATU) has implemented several measures to improve mobility in Lima. In the Historic Center, a new dedicated bus lane has been activated on a 1.18-kilometer stretch of Abancay Avenue, between Jirón Amazonas and Avenida Nicolás de Piérola. This intervention, which includes physical segregation and new signaling, aims to prioritize public transport. Monitoring shows travel times for buses in this sector have been reduced from approximately 25 minutes to between 8 and 11 minutes.
Additionally, construction progress on Metro Line 2 has allowed for the reopening of a section of Avenida Arica in Breña. The released segment, located between Jirón Chamaya and Jirón Tarapacá, covers approximately 110 meters. This reopening follows the partial removal of the enclosure for Ventilation Shaft PV-10, which is currently 74.12% complete. The works included the restoration of the roadway, sidewalks, and green areas to facilitate vehicle and pedestrian circulation.
