Lima to close historic centre to vehicle traffic on June 27

Mayor Renzo Reggiardo announced that the historic centre of Lima will be closed to vehicle traffic on Saturday, 27 June. The measure aims to protect public safety, cultural heritage, commerce and infrastructure amid a mobilisation organized by the Juntos por el Perú party. Reggiardo said the closure will remain in force while the protest continues, with the exact hours to be determined and further details to be issued. He also clarified that the restriction will not affect the Pride March scheduled for the same day on Avenida de la Peruanidad.

The decision follows a call from Juntos por el Perú candidate Roberto Sánchez for a nationwide demonstration, citing constitutional rights and a demand to "recover democracy". The city administration stressed that the priority is to prevent incidents and safeguard pedestrians and the historic area.
