Limassol businessman Dimitris Mavropoulos dies in boating accident

Dimitris Mavropoulos, a 77-year-old businessman and board member of the Limassol Tourism Development and Promotion Company, has died following an accident at Cape Greco.

According to autopsy findings by forensic doctors, Mavropoulos died of drowning in water, accompanied by multiple bodily injuries consistent with heavy sea turbulence and an accidental vessel collision. Reports indicate that Mavropoulos was attempting to save his boat by steering it toward deeper waters to avoid rocks when he was thrown into the sea.

His funeral is scheduled for Thursday, September 3, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at the Holy Church of Agios Kosmas Aitolos in Limassol. In a tribute to his love for life, his family has requested that attendees wear colorful clothing instead of traditional black.
