Limassol officials tackle housing shortages and urban planning

Limassol Mayor Ioannis Armeutis has addressed the city's housing crisis, describing Limassol as a 'city of two speeds' due to significant inequalities. To combat the lack of affordable housing, the Municipality is collaborating with KOAG to develop more than 400 residential units.

Additionally, the city is planning the construction of 80 student dormitories on Voreiou Ipirou Street, located near the TEPAK campus. The Mayor also highlighted the issue of unused buildings in the city center, suggesting that with a proper legislative framework, the state or local authorities could renovate these properties to provide low-cost rental options.

Separately, municipal councilors are revisiting a proposal for a multi-story parking facility on Andrea Themistokleous Street, at the former ESEL parking site. The project, which has been stalled for nearly 15 years, would aim to increase parking capacity from 180 to approximately 300 spaces, though the proposal faces scrutiny regarding the potential removal of approximately 30 trees at the site.
