Limassol housing market and affordability crisis
Overview
Cyprus is experiencing high rental prices, with Limassol identified as the most expensive housing market. Data from the Ministry of Interior indicates that monthly rents for three-bedroom apartments in specific Limassol areas, such as Germasogeia and Agios Tychonas, have reached €1,850. Other regions like Larnaca, Nicosia, and Paphos also report elevated costs, highlighting disparities between urban centers and rural communities.
In response to these conditions, Limassol Mayor Ioannis Armeutis has characterized the city as a ‘city of two speeds’ due to significant inequalities. To address the housing crisis and lack of affordability, the Municipality is working with KOAG to develop over 400 residential units and is planning 80 student dormitories near the TEPAK campus. Local officials are also considering the renovation of unused city-center buildings to provide low-cost rental options.
