LineageOS 24 releases Android 17-based builds for various devices

The LineageOS project has officially released version 24.0, which is based on Android 17. This release arrives ahead of the project’s 10th anniversary in December 2026 and features a faster development cycle than previous years.

Key updates include a significant visual overhaul of core applications using Google’s Material Design 3 Expressive language. New software additions include Canvas, a built-in image editor for basic tasks like cropping and white balance, designed to work alongside the Glimpse gallery and Aperture camera apps. Other app improvements include faster loading for the Twelve music player and Progressive Web App (PWA) support for the Jelly browser.

To simplify the installation process, the team introduced WebUSB Flash Tools, a browser-based utility that allows users to flash the ROM via ADB, Fastboot, Samsung Odin, or Amlogic Burn protocols. Additionally, the Updater app now supports streaming updates by default, which significantly reduces downtime on devices with A/B partition structures.

Support has been expanded to 24 new smartphone models, including devices from the Google Pixel 10 series, OnePlus 13 and 15, Xiaomi 13 Pro, and Fairphone 4 and 5. The release includes security patches spanning from August 2025 to October 2026. However, devices using older Linux kernels (4.4 and 4.9) will remain limited to LineageOS 22.2.
