LinkedIn survey reveals networking challenges for Italian workers
A survey conducted by Censuswide for LinkedIn involving over one thousand workers in Italy reveals a networking paradox. While 82% of professionals view their contact network as a decisive factor for navigating industry transformations, many struggle to develop these connections effectively.
Data shows that 42% of respondents do not know how to turn superficial contacts into structured professional relationships, and 38% are unsure where to start or lack access to the right people. This leads to passive digital platform usage, with 56% of users consuming content without interacting. This trend is more pronounced among Gen Z, where 68% are passive observers despite 93% recognizing the strategic value of networking.
Psychological barriers among younger workers include a fear of appearing inauthentic (39%) and concerns about being perceived as opportunistic or intrusive. Despite these challenges, Gen Z connections have grown by 17% over the last six years. The study also notes that job applications supported by internal referrals are over 5.5 times more likely to result in hiring compared to standard methods.
