Linux Foundation takes over governance of Open Secure AI Alliance

The Open Secure AI Alliance (OSAA) has completed its migration to the Linux Foundation, transitioning governance from NVIDIA to a neutral environment. This move aims to ensure that the development of defensive standards and open-source security tools for artificial intelligence is not driven by a single vendor, thereby preventing technological lock-in.

The alliance, which includes over 120 members such as Microsoft, IBM, Red Hat, CrowdStrike, and Canonical, focuses on securing the entire technological stack rather than just the AI models themselves. This includes creating tools for inspecting, auditing, and protecting AI agents that may have access to external memory or system privileges.

Key initiatives include the Shared AI Findings Exchange (SAFE), a proposed confidential system for reporting AI security incidents. Existing contributions to the ecosystem include NVIDIA’s NOOA framework for auditing agent behavior and Hugging Face’s Safetensors format, which is designed to prevent arbitrary code execution during model loading.
