Lionsgate and Meta partner for 3D Hunger Games prequel release
Lionsgate and Meta have announced a first-of-its-kind partnership to bring the upcoming film, The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping, to audiences in 3D. The collaboration involves converting the feature film into 3D to support its theatrical release before it becomes available on Meta VR glasses in the spring of 2027.
The 3D conversion was completed in collaboration with the visual effects studio DNEG. Director Francis Lawrence stated that the 3D adaptation serves as a creative tool to provide a more visceral and immersive experience for audiences following the character Haymitch Abernathy.
The film is scheduled for theatrical release on November 20. The upcoming Meta VR glasses, which feature 5K Infinite Display and Dolby Atmos spatial audio, are expected to offer a premium home viewing experience for the title following its cinema run.
