Lionsgate releases new trailer for The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping

Lionsgate has released a new trailer for “The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping,” a prequel set 24 years before the original film series. Directed by Francis Lawrence and based on the novel by Suzanne Collins, the film focuses on a young Haymitch Abernathy, portrayed by Joseph Zada, during the 50th Hunger Games, also known as the Second Quarter Quell.

To mark the anniversary, the Capitol has doubled the number of tributes, requiring 48 participants to compete in the arena instead of the usual 24. The footage highlights Haymitch’s life in District 12 and his early interactions with characters such as Lenore Dove Baird (Whitney Peak) and Maysilee Donner (Mckenna Grace). The trailer also previews a confrontation between Haymitch and President Coriolanus Snow, played by Ralph Fiennes.

The ensemble cast includes Jesse Plemons, Glenn Close, Elle Fanning, and Maya Hawke. The film is scheduled for theatrical release on November 20, 2026.
